Foundation Appoints New Program Officer

May 18th, 2011

The William T. Grant Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of a new program officer, Kimberly A. DuMont, Ph.D. In this position, she will help manage our funding programs, support grantees, and serve as a key member of the Foundation’s Senior Program Team, which sets our research agenda and annual priorities.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Dr. DuMont spent seven years as a consultant and then research scientist with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, where she worked on the evaluation of the Healthy Families New York (HFNY) intervention, a home visitation service for children at risk for abuse and neglect. In that capacity, Dr. DuMont bridged research—in this case, a rigorous evaluation—with the needs of practitioners and policymakers working to improve the health and well-being of at-risk youth.

“Kim DuMont is a skilled researcher, and she has gained important insights from her work in state government. Her knowledge will help assure that our program is relevant to policy and practice,” said Foundation President Robert C. Granger.

Prior to her tenure at the Office of Children and Family Services, Dr. DuMont held several research positions—most recently, at the New Jersey Medical School and New York University—and was an NIMH Predoctoral Fellow. Her projects have focused on topics including child maltreatment, people living with AIDS, children’s immunizations, and social policies affecting poor children and families. Dr. DuMont’s work has been supported by Pew Charitable Trusts, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, National Institute of Justice, and the National Institute of Mental Health, among others. She earned her B.A. in psychology from Wesleyan University and her doctorate in community psychology from New York University.

Dr. DuMont also has extensive experience with school systems as a consultant and as president of several Parent Teacher Associations, where she advocated for parents and collaborated with school officials.
