How do staff/youth mentoring relationships in a youth organization relate to youth development? What accounts for the strength in such relationships? This study examined variations in mentoring relationships at three after-school centers; and elucidated their linkage to characteristics of youth, staff, the social climate of the organization, and parental responses. It also examined how these relationships provide a foundation for positive development. A comparative study of organizational practices at three sites was also undertaken.
